i'll be avoiding that 2 letter word to avoid any weirdo text-searching the whole wide world for it. so it's ay eye here. but you know what i mean, yes? when i say Gen Ay Eye, it's that generative thing. yknow.
it was scary to even put up that banner saying NO AY EYE HERE!, it's a complicated situation
but ultimately i WANT TO, i want to stand my ground, so there it is, here it is
yknow
to those who want to fight, some words can look like war banners that they are ravenous to burn
but to the right people, they are a banner of allyship, or even a banner of safety
i wish i can remove this banner one day
not because i wanna avoid having this target on me or something, no, but because i wish the world wasnt like this to need to clarify stances like that
ugh. i guess technically its like that for most topics that are divided. it's rough out there. but yknow.
So, that damned ay eye, huh?
well, i tend to ramble on and on so i'll make this conclusion quick:
I never have, and I'm never, EVER going to be using ay eye, not the generative, not the language, nada.
sure. some people might come and say, genuine ay eye tools for medical research and security vulnerability and all that exist. and yeah, they do. but! to conflate what we generally mean by ay eye these days with these other ones, is just an attempt to muddy the waters.
don't let 'em distract you! the answer and distinction is. as. simple. as: Never gonna be using these myself, none. and i'm not gonna willingly touch anything that's been touched by all that generatin'.
i wish i could say with confidence that im never gonna touch any... but people are starting to obscure that information. people hide these information these days, dang it. but if i can help it, if i can recognize it, i ain't gonna.
but yea, never gonna use any of em. for Art? OF COURSE NOT, you kiddin' me!? for Code? NAW, not gonna. i'll struggle through the learning pains.
and id be happy to show you all the struggles i went through. i find the process of learning interesting, how we improve.
i'll happily show you all my scrapped layers, i'll show you all my scrapped sketches. all my commented-out lines of code, the parts that i tried and didn't work. i keep all these. i really do. cause i think that's COOL.
I like video game unused stuff. i like video game prototype and developmental stuff. betas and such. all the things that were made but unseen in the surface. that's damn cool. theres something inherently interesting in that process and progress.
as an artist who is like the area of work most affected negatively by this yknow, ive always had a hard time coming to terms with or figuring out a nuranced stance on gen ay eye. because i wanna reject it on principle, and i
do basically reject it on principle.
however, the more ay eye has stayed and lived, the more it keeps spreading, settling its roots... it's starting to feel more and more difficult to avoid all of it.
and with all that, i gotta admit... it's gotten me to start wondering if i should be accepting that it'll just... happen.
so ive been wondering, at the very least, how much ay eye coding should i tolerate at one point?
but then i saw
this post on tumblr yknow
that was eye-openin' to me
i almost slipped and let it slide, just cause this side, the drawing side, is the part that im most familiar with - and programming or writing not-so-much
but they ARE art, they are, just like she wrote; processes and crafts
it's something we can have mastery over, in our own different ways, over time
and just cause it's the parts that's unfamiliar to us doesn't make it okay to just let it go
so what will happen in the future?
will it go away one day? all disappear?
well, i've been tryin to wrap my head around that for a while myself
but as for that, i think this video by The Linux Experiment put it pretty concisely and realistically that i can agree with pretty confidently, both fortunately and unfortunately
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pkgvc7jwxwU
so ya! i said my piece, wrote down all the thoughts that i wanted to say,
so that's that
... it may seem like i'm not saying enough. not thought it through. yeah, maybe? i did write this up pretty quick.
i do have a lot of thoughts in my brain... but sorting out my thoughts is not easy. however, i do not think my conclusion will ever change. the only difference there will be, is how i substantiate my conclusion.
strengthen more of why and how i came to that conclusion and stuff.
maybe, if i ever do feel like writing more, there'll be more writing pages in my Odd Texts page.
well, before i wrap it up, i'll state it again for good measure.
I've never, and I'll never be using gen ay eye. not for creation, not for research, not for silly whatevers or tools or chats. nuh uh. never will.
